Trailer Analysis:
The Post

At the beginning of the trailer we see the film company logos. Dreamworks and 20th century fox are big movie production companies, and have released blockbusters such as Shrek and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Therefore when the audience sees the production logos of Dreamworks and 20th century they are more likely going to see this film, as they recognized previous films that these companies have produced. Additionally, as these companies produce well known science-fiction and action movies such as Independence Day, and Logan. Therefore the audience can recognize that these film companies have big budgets and majority of consumers prefer movies with big budgets as they find them more exciting.

This trailer does not show the BBFC rating for the movie. However, the themes in the trailer such as war, conspiracy and incarceration presents that this movie is not directed towards young children. The BBFC website states that movie is classified as a 12A due to some strong language and a brief battle scene. Even though the movie is rated a 12A the target audience for the movie are individuals 16 plus.

The music starts at the very beginning of the trailer and continues throughout. The music is instrumental which is effective as it increases the intensity in the scene, and by not having words it makes the audience focus more on the action that is happening in the trailer. The trailer also has the sound effect of a clock ticking. The sound effect is effective as it creates a tense atmosphere and makes the audience eager to know what is about to happen. Thus making them more likely to go and watch the movie to get the full picture of the story line.

The trailer portrays two protagonists Kay Graham(Merly Streep) and Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks). This makes it appealing to both genders as they recognize both genders. The female protagonist is even seen to have a higher position than the male. This reinforced when one character says to Kay (the female protagonist) 'Kay people are concerned about having a women in charge of the paper'. This makes it relatable to females, as some females have experienced being not taken seriously because of their gender.

In the trailer they exhibited scripted slides. For example, 'A Steven Spielberg Film.' Spielberg is a famous director with a net worth of 3.6 billion. His movies are well recognized and he is one of the best directors in the business based on his filmography. Individuals would  have recognize his name and would want to come and see this movie as they like they previous movies he has directed and produced. They also showed another scripted slides like 'Based On a True Story'. The audience are more likely to come and watch the movie as they would realize that the story would be relatable as it happened in real life, and because they may want to educate themselves on an event that occurred in history.
